CUSTOM MERCHANDISE + LOGO DESIGN
Tomfoolery Custom Merchandise + Logo Design was inspired by the 1996 BMW Z3 Roadster. The car has a broken speedometer, hood latch issues, and you can’t tell how much gas is needed…aka the car stresses me out. I made a nickname for the roadster, “Tomfoolery” or “Tom” for short, which has now become a running joke between my partner and I.
Clowns get a bad representation in media, I wanted to bring traditional Bauhaus (Was a revolutionary German Art + Design School (1919–1933) pioneered modernism by unifying fine arts with mass-production and functional craftsmanship. Its core philosophy, "form follows function," shaped 20th-century architecture, typography, furniture, and industrial design.”) with a modern twist of what a designerly clown would look like. Created in Adobe Illustrator (.ai) portraying a more mischievous look than the traditional cute but creepy clown.
KEY PRINCIPLES USED IN BAUHAUS RELATED DESIGN PRACTICES
Form Follows Function: Products and buildings were stripped of ornamental, non-essential decoration, focusing instead on their utilitarian purpose.
Unification of Arts: Craftsmanship, fine arts, and industrial technology were treated as equals.
Embracing New Materials: Use of accessible, industrial materials like tubular steel, plate glass, and reinforced concrete.
Minimalist Aesthetics: Geometric shapes, primary colors, and asymmetrical layouts.
